Chris retired in April 2018 and, after the sad passing of his wife of 45 years, decided that he needed a new direction. Following a re-introduction to camping in the Lake District with his eldest daughter and family, Chris got in touch with Retrofitted / Upsticks Campers in Risby near Bury St Edmunds. After meeting Mikey, Dave and Lucy and being impressed with their professional ability in retrofitting VW Transporter vans, Chris took the opportunity of hiring one of their vans, Hygge, with his youngest daughter on a test weekend in North Norfolk in October 2020. It was at this point that Chris caught the bug, not COVID 19 fortunately, and decided to take the plunge and buy a VW Transporter T28 van and provide to Mikey and Dave to refurbish to an agreed specification, based on one of their standard template offerings. Delivery of Adiona was taken in January 2021 and this is when Chris’ Adventures began. Since then Chris has travelled over 30,000mls visiting the Outer Hebrides, Wild Atlantic Way on the West Coast of Ireland, Les Routes des Grandes Alpes in France, Norway, Germany and several trips to Switzerland and the Swiss Alps. Currently Chris is planning a new Adventure to La Corse (Corsica) in October 2024. Throughout this time Mikey, Dave and Lucy have grown their business and have always provided the most professional, friendly and informative support, including providing some sexy new wheels with all-weather tyres to enhance Adiona’s travel season.
